About Us
While the city of Gary has a rich tradition of producing collegiate and professional athletes, it hasn’t had an athlete become a professional baseball player since LaTroy Hawkins debuted with the Minnesota Twins in 1995. As the popularity of the other major sports have increased, the popularity of baseball / softball has decreased. One of the main goals of Gary RBI is to introduce baseball / softball to as many kids as possible, because the athletes are here. They’re baseball / softball players. They just don’t know it yet!!!
Gary RBI was created in 2018, inspired by Gary Native, former MLB baseball player, and current MLB coach Lloyd McClendon. It’s mission was / is to expand the game of baseball / softball to Gary youth by introducing the game to kids ages 4-11 (tee ball and minor leagues).
During their inaugural year, Gary RBI partnered with MLB RBI, Home Field Advantage Foundation (HFAF), and the Boys & Girls Club to provide tee ball and minor league equipment for it’s 2018 baseball season. Since then, Gary RBI has partnered with HFAF, the Gary youth baseball community (now known as Calumet Region Little League), Good Sports, the Gary Parks Department, and the Hudson Campbell Sports & Fitness Center to provide winter skills trainings for Gary youth.
